Cross Lane Primary School Curriculum 

'Growing Together' 

The intent of the Cross Lane Primary Curriculum is to deliver a bespoke curriculum which is accessible to all and that will maximise the development of every child’s ability and academic development. In our curriculum there is a carefully planned series of learning opportunities and experiences that develop a child’s sense of curiosity, awe and wonder. It develops learning and the acquisition of knowledge, building on prior learning so that children know more, remember more and understand more.

Children arrive at Cross Lane having already had very different experiences and opportunities. In recognising the holistic development of the whole child, the school’s pastoral team supports all families. It enables our most vulnerable children to access a broad and balanced curriculum, through a graduated approach in all aspects of emotional and positive mental wellbeing.

The school works closely with its families and local community, recognising the rich and culturally diverse opportunities available. The curriculum values the importance of children knowing their locality well and gaining knowledge of their wider community. This means that we aim to make a big difference to the lives of all children by helping to increase their cultural capital. Developing a child’s sense of self-worth and having high aspirations for the future is built implicitly into the curriculum. The school’s core values of resilience, respect, community, endurance, honesty and aspiration are in all aspects of school life.

Long term plans are on a two year cycle, Year A (2019 - 2020) and Year B (2020 - 2021). Year A and B long term plans can be found below. Our curriculum follows the 2014 National Curriculum and provides broad and balanced learning experiences.

The school is proud of its behaviour and the values upheld by its children. The school has a tailor-made PSHCE curriculum designed for the specific needs of the pupils at Cross Lane. 

At Cross Lane we use Read Write Inc Phonics for our children in Reception to Year 2 and for our children beyond Year 2 who still need support in their reading. Click here to find out more about Read Write Inc.
